Ice Climbing Trek on Matanuska Glacier

Escape the crowds and treat yourself to a full day on the Matanuska Glacier. 

Your adventurous day will begin with a 2-mile hike (one way) over uneven glacial moraine. Your expert guide will lead you over loose rocks, muddy ice, and steep slopes. Depending on the groups ability and pace, this hike takes approximately an hour to an hour and a half. All that hard work will pay off when you approach the massive and gorgeous walls of the Matanuska Glacier. After 3-4 hours of ice climbing, you'll experience the best climbing terrain the Matanuska has to offer! 

Following your hike, you'll try your hand at ice climbing! You'll be equipped with everything you need: climbing boots, crampons, helmets and ice tools. Before getting on the ice, your guide will introduce you to proper climbing techniques. Once everyone is feeling comfortable, it's time to climb! 

Each climber will get to experience 3-4 climbs ranging from beginner bouldering to more challenging and physically demanding walls. Your heart will begin to pound as you kick your feet into the wall and smack your axe into the ice above you. Working your way up the wall, you'll feel a wave of accomplishment when you reach the top. 

No previous climbing experience is necessary, although a strong level of physical fitness is required. This trip is best suited for people looking for the most challenging and technical glacial experience!
