Kick off your adventure with a convenient pick up in downtown Anchorage. Your expert guide will welcome you aboard a comfortable (and heated!) vehicle before whisking you away to Chugach State Park.

As soon as you pull up to the trailhead, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported into a winter wonderland! To help you navigate the icy terrain, you’ll be given a sturdy pair of microspikes. Your first hike will take you deep into the forest around the Eagle River Nature Center. Stare up at snow-covered spruce trees as you wind along the Eagle River and even explore part of the historic Iditarod dog sledding trail! If you’re lucky, you may spot a red fox hunting for voles, a giant moose, or the dark grey feathers of an American Dipper!

Next, you’ll visit the picturesque Barbara Falls! After a short and easy hike, you’ll stand at the base of this 35-foot waterfall. Frozen in time, this waterfall is truly a sight to behold! Admire sparkling icicles, fascinating ice bridges, and so much more. Before heading back, take some time to enjoy the falls and munch on tasty snacks!

Make it a day to remember with this Chugach State Park Winter Hike!
